Description of In the depths of Doge’s Dungeon
The subject of this acrylic painting is deep in the dungeon of Doge’s Palace on San Marco square in Venice Italy. The narrow corridor and dark shadows are painted predominantly in inky purples and charcoal browns. The timeworn stone wall, rendered in subdued yellow ochre and greyish tones of lilac and ivory, closes in on the shadowed man at the centre of the painting. He stands in a narrow doorway, almost entirely in dark, his figure silhouetted against the luminous yellows and greens of the world beyond
The painting is a gallery wrapped canvas, with the 1½” deep edge sides re-gessoed a clean white. It is wired and ready to hang. No frame is necessary unless desired.
